Stress is something that every person encounters; yet we each experience it in a different way. Stress can increase our risk of certain health conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and more. Our feelings of stress can manifest into physical pain within our bodies, feelings of anxiety and anger, or restlessness and lack of sleep. Some of us have tools we’ve learned to use in order to relieve these feelings and some of us are still working on the best ways to deal with our feelings. Wherever you might be on this spectrum, it is important to know that you are not alone in how you feel, and there are steps you can take towards conquering your feelings of stress and increasing your happiness each day.
Since stress can affect our bodies, moods, and behaviors in such a drastic way, it is key that we find ways to keep our stress under control. We can do this through getting enough sleep and exercise each day and keeping to a routine. These practices can help to ground us and set us up for success throughout the day. We must also fuel our bodies with the right foods to keep us energized. Foods that support our health include proteins such as beans, eggs, and lean meats, as well as fruits and vegetables that are vibrant in color, including greens, berries, and bell peppers. Avocados and olives are especially great choices as they contain healthy fats to support brain health!
Other practices that are popular for relaxation include the following:
- Taking Epsom salt baths,
- Using essential oils,
- Lighting candles with your favorite scents
- Practicing mindfulness techniques
Whatever it is that brings you peace and joy, try to keep it in your routine each day in order to keep yourself centered during times of anxiety and uncertainty.
